Roar with dinosaurs, swirl with the wind, splash in the water, and explore sand and rocks through stories, music, movement, and crafts. We will even take a week to celebrate a very special birthday happening this summer. Turn on your imagination for a summer of learning and exploring at the library.

The first 20 elementary aged kids to register will recieve a Dinosaur Discovery coloring and activity book.

While at the Yardstick, purchase a paperback copy of our 250th Anniversary Book Club read and be entered for a summer reading prize at the Algoma Public Library. Our 250th Anniversary Book will be discussed on Friday, June 26th at 5:30 pm at the Yardstick. 

Books can also be checked out at the Algoma Public Library with a FREE library card.

Quilting with Niki Series: Tumbler Flag. Saturday, May 9th from 10 am to 2 pm. Please register ahead of time. A $10.00 donation will get you a kit with instructions. Bring your own sewing machine and basic supplies (scissors, thread).
​Join us for our Tumbler Flag Class on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 10 am to 2 pm, the latest "Quilting with Niki" project, perfect for celebrating all of the patriotic holidays and our nation's 250th anniversary. We will be assembling a flag made entirely of tumbler pieces. Never fear, a pre-cut kit is available for a $10 donation to the library, or get a cutting list when you pre-register and cut your own. If you have never sewn with the tumbler shape, this is a great beginning project. The finished size of 24" x 36" is perfect for a door, above a fireplace, or as a wall hanging or table topper. You won't want to stop with just one!

This year we celebrate America's 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, a speaker from Daughters of the American Revolution, will be here on Thursday, May 7th, 2026 at 5 pm. Ever wonder if you have an ancestor who supported the American Revolution?  Here’s a chance to learn the easiest ways to find your patriot and confirm if he or she qualifies you for membership in the Sons or Daughters of the American Revolution.  The program also includes many helpful tips on how to advance and document your genealogy research from generation to generation.

Family Forts & Stuffy Sleepover

Wear your PJs, grab your favorite stuffed animal friend and get ready for a cozy evening of reading and fun at the library. Families are invited to bring blankets and pillows we will provide everything else. The program includes a special craft activity and plenty of time to snuggle and read together inside your creations. At the end of the night, children are welcome to leave their stuffed animals for an overnight library sleepover. Come back the next day to pick them up and enjoy photos of their adventures!
