Changes to Hoopla
To Algoma Public Library Hoopla Users:
Beginning June 1, 2025, Hoopla will no longer be available to borrowers with primary residences outside of Kewaunee County.
Although Hoopla is a free service for patrons to use, Hoopla operates on a cost-per-circulation model. This means that there is cost to the library for each item checked out on Hoopla. Therefore, the cost increases as the number of checkouts increase. eAudiobooks tend to be the most expensive category as well as the most popular with patrons, so those costs can rise quickly. Current use has rendered this model unsustainable for Algoma Public Library due to budget limitations. To continue to make the service sustainable for the taxpaying residents of Kewaunee County within the confines of the library’s budget, we’ve had to set the new limit described above. Kewaunee County residents with Kewaunee County as their Primary Address (or voting address) will have access.
