Guest Author: Melane Radzicki McManus, author of "Thousand-Miler: Adventures Hiking the Ice Age Trail"

​The Wisconsin Historical Society is bringing its traveling History Makers Tour to Algoma Public Library and is thrilled to be a participating host. Join us on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 1 pm at the Algoma City Hall Council Chambers for Guest Speaker Author Melanie Radzicki. She will be here to talk her book Thousand-Miler: Adventures Hiking the Ice Age Trail and the Ice Trail. This is a great opportunity to celebrate and learn from Wisconsin’s history makers and storytellers!
 
Melanie Radzicki McManus has travaled the Ice Age Trail hikes twice, which both set the women’s speed record (now broken). She will also explain the history of the IAT, how it fits within the National Scenic Trail System and what you can expect when hiking the Ice Age Trail.

Melanie Radzicki McManus is a freelance writer specializing in travel and fitness. Her book “Thousand-Miler: Adventures Hiking the Ice Age Trail” was published in 2017 and was one of the first books written about the Ice Age Trail. She has written another book about the IAT, this one geared toward kids, which will be published in the fall of 2027. 

Melanie has set a goal of hiking all 11 National Scenic Trails. She has thru-hiked six to date, and is in the midst of section-hiking two others.
